About Those Promo Tweets

This is a segment from the Jimmy Kimmel Live show, with Ryan Gosling promoting his new film with Russel Crowe, Nice Guys. See, starting at about  1:25. It’s funny, and illuminating ( not that we didn’t know).

Act 3 of The Conversation – “When I’m No Longer an Actor.”

here For parts one and two of Ma Vie En L’air’s interview  ( credit toAmanda Aayusya/All Film Magazine) with Richard Armitage discussing his role on Hannibal, I reblogged. But in this latest short piece is an answer to question about social media which elicited, I thought, an odd response from Richard Armitage.

excerpt:

You joined social media last year. How are you enjoying it? Meanwhile Hannibal has a very huge, loyal and active fanbase in social media. Have you heard from them?

Yeah. I mean, one of the reasons why I think I’m enjoying it is because I know at some point, for me, it will all come to an end. When I’m not an actor anymore,  I will no longer be on social media. So it does have a finite kind of time limit…

What struck me about this answer was that he states that he’s enjoying being on social media – sort of. Why does he enjoy it? Because, according to Armitage, he won’t have to be there forever. He’s enjoying it because it’s temporary? Is he enjoying it at all?

But then, the whole answer falls apart, because Armitage’s presence on social media, according to him, will end when  I’m no longer an actor.

In just what time and place does Richard Armitage think he will no longer be an actor? A stunning answer I think.

And anyway, even if he were to give up acting for directing or producing, the way things are, you still gotta be on social media – ask Bryan Fuller.

@RCArmitage Relaxing? Perry Hopes So.

Have you  noticed that @RCArmitage has not posted an original  tweet since the day after the Saturn awards CIZ5iNiUwAAgR2Q

June 26) and then to say thanks? There were 3 retweets, all work/promo related, for SDCC and Hannibal on June 3, July 1 and 2 respectively, but that’s been it since before he arrived home in New York City on July 3.

No. I don’t think fans scared him off with Cybersmile criticism, unwanted airport pics or for any other reason.

I think the 11 days of Twitter silence means he’s off -as in not actively working on something he has to promote.

He had a few opportunities to tweet something not directly promotion related, so slightly more personal, which he didn’t take;same sex marriage decision by the U.S. Supreme Court, July 4 greetings.  Fans have come up with reasons/excuses for his forbearance (mainly that these were American topics). He’s been quiet about Urban and the Shed Crew also, which got a little buzz from Candida Brady this week. ( Love that photo!).CJP-N9qWcAAFrNu

Perry’s not complaining or fishing for a tweet from @RCArmitage. She’s glad if he decides to take real time off from all his professional marketing/promotional/ambassador obligations. And she thinks we’ll see/hear plenty very shortly, what with another episode of Hannibal ready to air, lots of new press on the Red Dragon episodes and SDCC on the horizon.

It just says something to me about how/why/when he uses/intends to use, Twitter. Stick to business, Richard Armitage, and enjoy your time off.

Side Dishes: Lee Pace on Twitter 1 year in – Nothing But a Good Experience

“About a year ago I joined Twitter and recently joined Weibo, and you see the connectivity of this technology; it’s unbelievable how people communicate on it,” he said.

“They communicate in private ways and very public forums, it’s a real kind of revolution and changing force. This is all an evolution of people sending each other messages on these early computers, like the chat rooms that Donna is setting up are the great-great grandfather to Twitter, and I find that really interesting.”

Speaking about talking with his passionate fanbase online, he said: “It’s been nothing but a good experience for me. I find people really supportive and enthusiastic. It’s removed a barrier between me and them that I was happy was gone.

“You depend on the subterfuge of the media, and now you don’t have to. You can send them a good wish or tell them something you’re interested in. If someone follows you, you can click on their page and see a little bit of what they’re about. You don’t get a total picture of someone, but you see what they’re interesting in showing, and you get to eavesdrop a bit on their life, and it’s interesting.”

He seems to be having an easier, breezier time than our guy.

WTF? Part 3 – I’m Actually OK with this.

I didn’t follow my own advice and take a screen shot of the now deleted tweet. No worries. I’m certain others did.
And I thought The Red Dragon would spook me out.
