#RichardArmitage to Narrate The Bible

Oughtabull Oratory.com just announced that fan favorite narrator, Richard Armitage, is currently recordingThe Bible for its Really Classics Division. Oughtabull is being tight-lipped about which Bible Armitage will be narrating. Producer Chancy Jewell said,” on the one hand, we think Richard  reading Scriptures/Bible/Torah is great material for him and will capitalize on his dramatic ability.”

On the the other hand, release is expected around Christmas, and the New Testament ( Holy Bible) would give Armitage the challenge of individualizing, through his voices, a company of  12 characters who can be hard to distinguish – to wit – the Apostles. Ms. Jewell went on, “Richard has the perfect experience for this – it’s another version of Thorin Oakenshield and  his  company of Dwarves, who were more or less indistinguishable from one another. We think Richard can bring each apostle to life, so to speak.”

Industry insiders close to the producers and creatives, who wish to remain anonymous in order to save their jobs, are enjoying the confusion. They claim the text to be narrated is an adaptation, or retelling of The Bible called The Bible: A Novel.  The  author(s) have not been named, but it’s rumored  that one or both of them have relevant experience novelizing stuff,  though there’s a penchant for changing the endings. That might be problematic.

Oughtabull Oratory and Richard Armitage have partnered numerous, many, lotsa, times before – even winning some awards together.

Lately, Armitage has been moonlighting with other audio producers including Audible, Oughtabull Oratory and Big Finish. Does he prefer to be heard, and not seen? Three other recent voice projects give legs to that assumption: The War of the Worlds – A radio drama; Castlevania, an animated series and; Wolverine: The Long Night, a dramatic podcast series. Armitage also has a voice role in cult VR film, Arden’s Wake, which has only been seen by a handful, but has received critical acclaim. When asked what drew him to the work of narrating The Bible, Armitage said it was one of the first books he read as a child. He loved the story of Sampson who played around with his hair and beard to much distraction, and was a real contender.

Fans now are waiting for these audio treasures, available for pre-order and post order or in no particular order. A look at the @RCArmitage Twitter feed reveals the obvious – fans are already pre-ordering in huge numbers, without actually knowing what the product will be. Fans who want to actually see Richard Armitage are eagerly awaiting Berlin Station, S. 3 – or a bit of it, The Lodge and My Zoe. The writer is not up on sales and distribution for these two films – only time will tell if we get to see them or when.

Chatty @RCArmitage Some Thoughts

Lots of tweets on a few subjects in a short period.  ( see below) I was going to say Chatty Cathy, but on reflection, I now think that descriptor is just the wrong side of sexist – which wouldn’t at all square with the woman power  he’s underscoring in some of them.

And then there are two tweets referencing his dad’s teasing about some of the son’s roles. Very unusual for him. I guess they’re doing alright. It would be cool if Mr. Armitage, Sr. follows his son on Twitter. I think he’d get a kick out of those tweets.

And finally, thank you Digital Spy, for giving fans at least one interview on Ocean’s 8 devoted to Richard Armitage. I think the closest we got so far, was  from The New York Times reviewer who liked the film, but trashed the Claude Becker plot line. Haven’t  seen the film yet, but I think he was wrong: revenge and pay back are consistent with every Ocean’s film.

Tomorrow is Ocean’s 8 day for Perry. Very unusual for me, I’m taking around a dozen friends to the opening in our town tomorrow afternoon. Stay tuned. Based on the reviews and my own opinion all along, I’m expecting to be entertained and highly amused by watching Richard Armitage in a totally different sort of role – and a blockbuster at that! WTF! Julie Delpy claims 20% financier dropped out solely because she’s a woman directing.

“Women directors are emotional, women are unreliable,” Delpy told The Hollywood Reporter. “They told me that to my face in a meeting! They made their decision [to pull money from the film] on nothing except the fact I was a woman.”

Ms. Delpy claims that the advice to pull financing came from some American Lawyer.

This hiccup ( if it’s just that) seems like it may push the filming back, and who knows what havoc that will wreak on Richard Armitage’s schedule.

Pithy New Den of Geek #RichardArmitage Interview

Lots of new take-aways from this interview.

While the interview was a promo for Dr. Jekel and Mr. Hyde, the conversation touched a number of subjects and projects.

Of interest to me was the hint that Richard Armitage might have a substantial role in promoting Ocean’s 8 along with the all star female cast.It was also good to hear ( even if not completely true) that he has learned to enjoy the promotional aspects of a big film.

Excerpt:

 I worked on Ocean’s 8 at the beginning of this year, which will be premiering in June next year, so I’ll be back in that cycle of a big movie junket. It’s interesting because you put as much effort in to working a film, as you do making a film and I used to really dislike that side of it, but I actually love it now, because the time when you actually get out and come face to face with the fans – sometimes with independent movies they go to festivals and they get a limited release and you don’t always get to sort of meet people and talk about the project as much, so in that respect I could talk about The Hobbit for the rest of my life because I had such a good time doing it.

Also, it looks as if Macbeth with Yaël Farber is no longer a consideration because of the swell of Macbeth productions, so, good news ( I think) they are back to considering something based on an ancient Greek play. While working with Farber again seems like a definite plan, details seem vague and unformed as yet.

Also the news that he was seriously up for a role in Peter Jackson’s  production of Mortal Engines.

  I was  very close to working with Peter Jackson and Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh this year on Christian Rivers’ latest movie (Mortal Engines), but I couldn’t quite make it work, because of Berlin Station, but I know that I’ll work with them again in the future and I’ll be back in New Zealand at some point, so The Hobbit has left such a legacy with me, that it’s sort of a little beating heart that I’ll always be grateful for.

Unfortunately ( very) Berlin Station got in the way.

It seems like his Bridget Cleary project is still just a future dream. He also says he’ll be filming in Moscow, though I couldn’t figure out which project to which this referred.

I also wonder whether another Mike Bartlett piece might be in the works. By all accounts, it seems to me that the two have developed a friendship and they have the success of Love,Love,Love to ground them.
