The whole look of the character – including long red hair – reminds me of English indie singer Florence Welch. Certainly seems odd in a contemporary movie! But so does Dr White’s vintage 70s coat…
I have no problem with her dresses! I actually rather like her style. Living in a big city I see loads of stylish (hipster) young (and sometimes not so young women) who dress exactly like Sarah. Wearing the knee highs with stilettos was very en vogue some years ago. It never became mainstream, but one can still see it in variations every now and then here in Munich.
Still I think they want to tell something particular with her way of dressing… Not sure what, but I have seen the film only once so far, and as you all know by now: it’s pretty confusing… 😉
I agree that there is a layer of meaning attached to the costume choices for her. Perry has written some interesting thoughts over on her blog re. translucent materials, little-girl-dress sense etc.
Bridesmaid’s dress. You never wear them again!

Just in case you need something diaphanous for later? 🙂 (Here I am again, commenting on something I haven’t seen yet — but I HAVE seen pictures.)

That coat! I thought it was something he saved from Urban, or perhaps the costume dept. had to shop from thrift shops lol
