Shah, Shaw, Now I’m Sure

Notice how Richard Armitage, as Daniel Miller, pronounces the name Shaw the first three times he says it, up to around 0:38 on the video.. It sounds more like Shah (but not quite), the first three times he says it, up to around 0:38 on the video.

This is not how I pronounce the name, which sounds more that the vowel sound in the word shore, but without the r.

Richard Jenkins, as his character,  pronounces the name the way I do. (0:55).

So does Richard Armitage, in his interview, at about 0:42, presumably filmed much later.

I’m curious to see whether Armitage’s pronunciation remains consistent, or was there a correction somewhere along the line, perhaps from his dialogue coach? Was the trailer edited first, before the ADR?

Otherwise, so far, his American accent is sounding good. We should hear more of it if there’s a trailer or clip from Brain In Fire.

Let’s hope he nails it.
