Not surprised. With so much going on in the country, South Africans especially need uplifting theatre. Not really a Farber fan myself sorry.

Nothing to be sorry about.

I think it’s a shame. But clearly she has found other work to engage with.

There must have been some trouble. Casting calls for the play were announced back in December 2014, but obviously the play was never performed. Then it was scheduled for June 2016, as some press and Ms Farber herself told during “Les Blancs” and “Miss Julie” (in Paris) reviews / interviews. “The Bacchae” was then post poned to August 2016, with cast listed and tickets on sale. And now it’s been cancelled. Troubles indeed. Since it can’t be a sudden illness or unavailability of the cast and crew (with 3 full months to find a substitute and understudies always ready) it must be something regarding Baxter Theatre or Ms Farber herself. We can only wait and see.

It may show up in some other venue at some other time. I doubt she will give up on it. Especially after her success with Salome.

True. As I said above, this will probably be produced somewhere, sometime.
