Armitage – “A Mythic Figure” Sunday – Times Review of the Crucible – Looks Great From What I Can See.

Richard Armitage ‘s imposing Proctor knows how to use the heft of his  shoulders and stormy eyes – at times he seems like a mythic figure out of Lorca.

(A reference to Frederica Garcia Lorca, Spanish poet and playwright who wrote in the 1920’s and 30’s.)

    • In my time (last century) it was considered cool to know the poems of Lorca, Mayakovski, Prevert, etc. by heart, so its kind of funny to me that you feel the need to explain who Lorca is. BTW, its actually a very apt comparison. Based on the reviews and photos I’ve seen, the whole Crucible production is reminiscent of Lorca’s rural tragedies – the whole mise-en-scene, the chairs, the costumes, not to mention the atmosphere of gloom, doom and unavoidable destiny…
