Richard Armitage’s ears must be burning as speculation increases that he will be the next Batman. The Arkenstone reported that an “Access Hollywood” poll put him way out in from of four other contenders at 41%. In another on-line article, he was given 5:1 odds to get the role, second only to Josh Brolin with 3:1 odds. His name is on every list- short or long, that has surface recently. The truth is, there haven’t been any new developments in this story for a few days. Every one of the articles we’ve seen since the first report quoting ” a casting source,” has been a reworking, recycling, re-tread of the same one or two original articles in Metro and Hollywood Reporter.
Still, I have to admit, speculating about it, discussing the pros and cons with other fans, fighting off the Matthew Clairmont promoters – it’s all fun. So in that same vein, Perry has done a feasibility study to determine whether Richard Armitage has the experience to play Batman.

The funny thing is, with so many articles mentioning RA as being in contention for the role, I’m going to feel annoyed on his behalf if he isn’t seriously considered. He may well turn it down if offered it, but it would be great to have an insight into that whole casting process, just to know if he really is on the radar for future big roles.

I know. We don’t want him to be the perennial bridesmaid (batmaid, bridesman?). For all we know, and I lean this way- not one of the articles we’ve been talking about is based on a verifiable source. A studio “casting insider” could be some WB employee who goes fly-fishing, or who knits.
Maybe someone who does have insight into this process can let us know what goes on.
That’s on the one hand. On the other hand, I wonder how WB and the producer/directors of the film could NOT put him on this list?

Excellent! The lighthearted path is probably the best at this point 🙂 It is certainly fun to speculate “What if” in lieu of any new information. That said, whether he ultimately does it or not, it couldn’t hurt to have him try on the suit and snap a few pix could it?

😀 I’m endlessly fascinated by this process – those things must be custom made for whoever the actor is – I wonder if there is some sort of mold that has to be cast to get the fit just right on a rubber suit…I am definitely in the wrong line of work!

I’m sure the suit is custom made. I think the Batman suit is a really substantial piece of armor that makes him look like a larger,more idealized figure.

His body is so different from the Guy days and he seems to move in action scenes so much more smoothly, i.e. Porter and Thorin. It would be even *better* than dressing GG. We’re both in the wrong biz.

I hope readers follow that link. Thanks Katharine. There’ve always been some questions about the true nature of Batman’s relationship with Robin, but this is the first I’ve heard that George Clooney was going to put that particular spin on the role.
